[ Time required:half a day, one day ]
Shimenawa group in Miyama has dedicated Shimenawa ropes to Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto and Inakura Shrine in Nara for more than 30 years. With the aging of the founding members, the skills were at the danger of disappearing forever. However, a new group of people in their 30s and 40s was formed and is learning the traditional skill of Shimenawa making to be passed to the next generation.
We are the member of the “new” Shimenawa group and participate in the making every year. We start from planting the rice for the straw.
Join us in the Shimenawa working workshop. You may be able to meet the legendary members and hear their stories.
